Watch: Chicharito nets hat trick, dramatic winner for Leverkusen
Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez came through in the clutch this weekend for Bayer Leverkusen, and then some.
The Mexican forward delivered a hat trick, capping it with a winner in stoppage time in a 3-2 triumph over Mainz 05. The first two goals brought Leverkusen back from one-goal deficits and they were scored with each foot. The left-footed finish tied it at 1-1 in the 32nd minute, while the right–with the help of a deflection, looped in to make it 2-2 in the 66th minute.
With the teams headed for a split of the points, Chicharito nudged Leverkusen ahead, taking a header off the bounce and pushing it past a rooted goalkeeper to secure the three points.
"I can say it was the perfect hat trick because I scored with my left, my right and my head... [It was great] to do what we wanted to do since the beginning of the season. I think in the second half we were very intense, we created a lot of chances and we defended well. We were very concentrated and very focused and thankfully we scored the three goals up to the last minute. We keep going up to the 90th," Chicharito told the club's official video channel following his performance.
The goals give Chicharito four on the Bundesliga season after a 17-goal campaign in his first year with the club.
