Aston Villa weathered a second-half comeback from Blackburn to win 3-1 in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Striker Gabby Agbonlahor put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute with a superb individual strike, holding off Michel Salgado before curling the ball past Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Agbonlahor set up Emile Heskey for the second in the 25th but Villa sat back in the second half and Morten Gamst Pedersen pulled one back for Blackburn with a header in the 52nd.

England striker Darren Bent wrapped up a first win for new Villa manager Alex McLeish by powering in the third goal in the 67th after Stiliyan Petrov's shot was blocked.
