United's Macheda fined $24,000 for anti-gay tweet

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has been fined 15,000 pounds ($24,000) by the English Football Association for making a homophobic comment on Twitter

Macheda, currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers, was found guilty of using ''an abusive and/or insulting word including a reference to a person's sexual orientation.''

West Ham midfielder Ravel Morrison was fined 7,000 pounds ($11,000) two weeks ago for a similar offense.
