Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud says defender Benoit Tremoulinas faces a club fine after being held in a police cell overnight for drunk driving.

The club said on its website Wednesday that Tremoulinas was held in a Bordeaux police cell Tuesday night for driving ''in a drunken state and refusal to comply with police officers.''

French reports said that Tremoulinas refused a breathalyzer when officers stopped his car and sped off, running a red light, before driving the wrong way down a one-way street and finally being cornered by chasing police in an underground car park.

Triaud said ''I'm more in favor of financial sanctions than sporting ones'' and ''I'm going to call him into my office.''
