Sounders beat Whitecaps 3-0 to take Cascadia Cup title

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Andreas Ivanschitz and Gonzalo Pineda scored their first goals of the season, Obafemi Martins added his 13th and the Seattle Sounders beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 on Saturday to wrap up their fourth Cascadia Cup title.

Seattle (14-13-3) improved to 3-0-1 in its last four games.

The Cascadia Cup is a regional head-to-head competition between Seattle, Vancouver and the Portland Timbers. The Whitecaps needed a victory to claim their third straight trophy in the competition.

The Sounders opened the scoring in the 45th minute when Martins set up Ivanschitz for a shot that went between goalkeeper David Ousted's legs. Pineda scored in the 71st minute, and Martins sealed it in the 87th minute with his fourth goal in four games.

Vancouver dropped to 15-11-3.
