Sevillla strike duo in doubt
Fredi Kanoute and Luis Fabiano are doubtful as Sevilla bid to end
their two-game winless run in the Primera Division clash with
fellow European hopefuls Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday.
Luis Fabiano is continuing his recovery from a chest injury
and Kanoute is struggling with an ankle problem, while Sebastien
Squillaci is back in contention.
Renato has recovered from a foot problem and is named in the
20-man squad, while midfielder Didier Zokora and striker Alvaro
Negredo should continue after returning from suspension for the 3-2
defeat at Real Madrid last time out.
Adriano could also come into contention from the start after
coming on as a replacement in the late defeat at the Bernabeu.
Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez heaped glowing praise on Madrid
following the loss, describing them as "electric".
But he is determined for his side to return to winning ways
against a Depor side who have triumphed in two of their last three
games.
Sevilla may have one eye on next week's Champions League
clash with CSKA Moscow - the last-16 clash is tightly poised at 1-1
with Sevilla scoring a valuable away goal in the first leg - but
Jimenez has warned his side their focus must remain on Depor.
"This one is not more important than another and we have 24
hours to prepare two real finals," said the coach.
"This is all important. Being immersed in all three
competitions carries a requirement, and if we think of the game
with CSKA, we are not being ambitious.
"If we want to continue next year in the Champions League, we
must win against Depor, win on Tuesday and win the cup.
"That is the spirit that pervades this club, but to be among
the greats we have to win at Deportivo."
Depor, who lie sixth - two points behind Sevilla - defeated
Tenerife 3-1 last weekend and hope to celebrate coach Miguel Angel
Lotina's contract extension with victory.
Lotina agreed a one-year contract extension as Depor coach
this week.
The 62-year-old's previous deal was set to expire on June 30
following his arrival at the Riazor in 2007.
Depor have made steady progress under the former Osasuna and
Espanyol coach, finishing ninth in his first season in charge and
seventh the following campaign and he is looking to build on his
achievements with the club.
"It's a great pressure and responsibility to train Depor," he
said.
"And we are full of desire to continue improving.
"We want to create a better squad next season.
"They're going to make a few signings but they must be big
names and if there is a sale, someone even better must be brought
in."
