Saudi Arabia's football federation has canceled an initial contract with Vasco da Gama coach Ricardo Gomes after rejecting his demands for taking over its national team.
The federation said in a statement Tuesday that Gomes wanted to delay the start of this three-year deal because of personal reasons.
The statement said Gomes was supposed to come to the kingdom on Thursday to sign his ?9 million ($13 million) contract and start coaching. The federation reached an initial deal with Gomes this month.
It said it has temporarily asked Morris Lorinzo, another Brazilian who coaches the Saudi under-20 side, to take over the national team.
