One of the eight stadiums being used for the Copa America lacks a lighting system, which threatens four matches in the South American championship that is set to open in just over three weeks.
Pedro Eusebio, a spokesman for the Colon football club, said the 65-year-old venue in Santa Fe was waiting for new floodlights to be released by the customs office so they can be installed. He said the old lights were torn down.
''The lights have to be put up right now to be able to play the Copa America matches,'' Eusebio told radio LT10 in Santa Fe on Wednesday.
Ernesto Cherquis Bialo, a spokesman for the Copa America, said there were no plans to change the venue. He did not say when the lights might be installed.
Asked in an interview with The Associated Press if there were plans to change venues, Cherquis Bialo replied: ''This never has crossed our mind.''
The stadium in Santa Fe, located 500 kilometers (300 miles) northwest of Buenos Aires, holds its first match on July 3 when Paraguay plays Ecuador. Argentina plays Colombia on July 6, then Colombia faces Bolivia on July 10. A quarterfinal is set for July 16.
The Copa America opens on July 1 with Argentina playing Bolivia in La Plata, 60 kilometers (35 miles) southeast of Buenos Aires.
