Palmeiras signs Paraguayan playmaker Mendieta

Brazilian club Palmeiras says it has reached a deal to sign playmaker William Mendieta from Paraguay's Libertad.
Palmeiras said Friday that the 24-year-old Paraguayan is arriving on a 4-year contract.
Financial details were not officially announced, but Palmeiras is expected to pay nearly $2 million for the playmaker.
Palmeiras also has Chile midfielder Jorge Valdivia, who has endured a series of muscle injuries in recent months and hasn't played much.

Palmeiras is the Brazilian club with the most national titles but is currently playing in the country's second division. The club won the 1999 Copa Libertadores.
