Osvaldo leaves Southampton, Swansea City sign Eder

Southampton have ended Dani Osvaldo's expensive stay at the club on the opening day of Europe's summer transfer window in the English Premier League.

The Saints have terminated Osvaldo's contract two years into a four-year deal, having signed the Italy striker from Roma for a club-record deal worth up to £14.6 million (now $22.8 million) in 2013. Osvaldo didn't play for Southampton after head-butting team-mate Jose Fonte in a training session six months into his deal, and had loan spells at Inter Milan and Boca Juniors last season.

Southampton sold many of its leading players last summer - including Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren - but managed to successfully rebuild and finish the season seventh.

Swansea signed Portugal striker Eder from Braga on a three-year deal, and playmaker Lewis Holtby completed his permanent transfer to Hamburg from Tottenham after a season-long loan spell.

Newly promoted Bournemouth signed Sylvain Distin on a free transfer after the 37-year-old French center back's release by Everton.

Czech Republic striker Matej Vydra joined Watford, which was also promoted last season, on a five-year deal after two spells at the club from Udinese in Italy.
