Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill wants to keep Craig Gardner, but
could be fighting a losing battle with Wolves and Birmingham
interested.
The 23-year-old has found first-team football hard to come by
at Villa Park this season as the likes of James Milner, Ashley
Young and Stiliyan Petrov have excelled.
O'Neill is desperate to keep a large squad to help the
pursuit of a place in the Champions League. But Midlands rivals
Wolves and Blues want to sign Gardner, and O'Neill acknowledges the
lure of regular football.
The Villa boss said in the Daily Mirror: "In an ideal world I
would like him to stay, but players like to play."
