Villarreal striker Nilmar will undergo surgery to remove a cyst from his right knee.
The Spanish club announced that the Brazil international will have the surgery on Tuesday in Barcelona without giving any indication how long he will be sidelined.
Villarreal is already without injured forward Marco Ruben.
Villarreal is in 12th place in the Spanish league with only one win and has lost its first two games in the Champions League.
