Senegal striker Mamadou Niang is transferring from Marseille to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The French champion posted a note on its website after losing 3-2 to Valenciennes in the domestic league on Saturday.

''I would have preferred to leave in better circumstances,'' Niang said. ''The defeat makes me sad.

''I've spent five wonderful years here. It breaks my heart a bit to leave this club because Marseille is my city and I'll be a 'Marseillais' until I die.''

Niang was the top striker in the French league last season with 18 goals.

The 30-year-old forward has scored 100 goals in the French league with three different clubs: Marseille, Strasbourg and Troyes.

Niang is leaving Marseille amid rumors that the French club will sign Brazil forward Luis Fabiano to replace him.

Niang will join another Senegal international, Issiar Dia, who was signed this summer by Fenerbahce from French club Nancy on a four-year deal.
