Captain and playmaker Wesley Sneijder has dropped out of the Netherlands squad to play Romania in a World Cup qualifier after suffering a groin injury.
Sneijder injured his groin Friday in the first half of the Netherlands' 3-0 victory over Estonia in Amsterdam. He was replaced by Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, who scored the team's first goal early in the second half.
Coach Louis van Gaal has called up AZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher to replace Sneijder for Tuesday's qualifier at Amsterdam Arena.
The Netherlands is top of Group D with five straight wins. Romania is third with three wins, a draw and a defeat.
