NAC continue to inch away from the lower reaches of the table after this success at the Rat Verlegh Stadion. Eric Botteghin gave NAC an early lead before Bryan Linssen immediately levelled, with Donny Gorter and Omer Bayram also on target as all the goals came in the first half. The hosts went ahead from the first attack of the game in the fourth minute. Robert Schilder sent in a corner from the right which found an unmarked Botteghin in front of goal, with the Brazilian heading home. However, the lead lasted just a minute when the visitors equalised after a gaffe by goalkeeper Jelle ten Rouwelaar, who sent the ball against VVV's Linssen who shot home from about three yards. The hosts regained the lead in the 25th minute when Ferry de Regt pulled back Botteghin by his shirt in the area resulting in a penalty and a second yellow card, and a red, for De Regt. Gorter sent the ball into the left-hand corner of the goal for 2-1 and the hosts went further ahead a minute before half-time. Bayram took on and passed two defenders and drilled the ball home from the centre of the area. There was little of note in the second half, although NAC almost went three goals in front with half an hour left. Schilder provided the ball for Anthony Lurling, who shot from about 10 yards but VVV goalkeeper Wilko de Vogt just got a touch to it to divert it wide of the right post.
