Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has decided to donate his FIFA Ballon d'Or World Coach of the Year award for auction in memory of his mentor, former England soccer great Sir Bobby Robson.

The Ballon d'Or will be sold to the highest bidder in an online auction next month, Sky Sports reported Monday.

The Portuguese boss won the accolade in 2010 after leading Italian soccer giant Inter Milan to a historic treble in the 2009-10 campaign.

Mourinho has parted with the prestigious award to support the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Sir Bobby's Breakthrough Auction will run Oct. 8-23, with proceeds from the auction as well as those from a charity ball going to the foundation.

The late Robson's son Mark was delighted with the gesture by Mourinho, who worked with the legendary English manager at Sporting Lisbon, Porto and Barcelona.

"The entire family is completely astounded by this generous gift from Mr. Mourinho," he said. "We are thrilled and so thankful to him.

"My dad would have been so proud by the way all the different clubs and [soccer] managers around the world are pulling together by contributing such incredible prizes."

According to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation's website, Robson battled cancer five times during a 17-year period before succumbing to the disease in July 2009 at age 76.

Other donations for next month's auction include the chance to join England coach Fabio Capello and his squad at a training session, VIP tickets for a Manchester United game courtesy of manager Sir Alex Ferguson and a signed limited edition copy of Brazilian legend Pele's autobiography.
