Lazio forward Ciro Immobile pens new contract until 2022
ROME (AP) Lazio forward Ciro Immobile has been rewarded for his blistering start to the season with a new contract, tying him to the Serie A club until 2022.
Immobile's previous contract ran until 2021. The 27-year-old forward will reportedly earn 2.5 million euros ($3 million) a season plus bonuses.
Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, 22, has also extended his contract until June 30, 2022.
Immobile, who has 11 goals in eight league matches and another four in other competitions, tops the league scoring chart as he looks to challenge for a second top-scorer award.
The Italy international first won the prize in 2014, scoring 22 for Torino. That prompted a move to Borussia Dortmund but he scored just three goals in 24 Bundesliga matches and had an equally unhappy spell at Sevilla.
Immobile spent the second half of the 2015-16 season back at Torino on loan before making his return to Italy permanent with a transfer to Lazio, where he scored 23 times in the league last season.
