Haber earns praise from Smith

Stevenage boss Gary Smith saluted matchwinner Marcus Haber after he stepped off the bench to seal a 2-1 win at Coventry on Sunday.

The League One victory at the Ricoh Arena marked Boro's third away success in a row.

David McGoldrick, on loan from Nottingham Forest, deservedly put the Sky Blues in front as early as the 11th minute but Robin Shroot followed up to level after Luke Freeman's shot was parried by Joe Murphy.

The visitors snatched all three points in the 71st minute when Haber powerfully headed home - extending Boro's unbeaten start to the season. And Smith was delighted with the sub, who had spent much of the week on his sick bed.

"Three wins away from home is just what the doctor ordered," Smith said. "Marcus is a big strong lad. He is mobile, aerially he will win his fair share in this division and he has good technique. The one thing he has missed in his career is goals. If he can add that to his game he might not be around here much longer.

"Coventry started the game very well indeed and could have been a couple up inside the first 10 minutes. They came out of the blocks quickly because we were back on our heels.

"We got ourselves back in the game at that point which was an absolute necessity, and to go in all square was something we could hold on to. We made a couple of changes and the second period had a very different picture to it."
