Worthington has confirmed the Wolves teenager will start on the left of midfield for the Group C clash, with more experienced performers such as Grant McCann and Niall McGinn left on the bench. It is a bold selection to say the least, with Gorman yet to play for the Wolves first team. Worthington has shown his faith in the player before, handing him five caps, but only once before has he featured in a competitive fixture - as an 89th-minute substitute in the 1-0 win over Slovenia. Worthington, though, insists he is ready for the challenge. "He caught my eye the very first time I saw him at Lilleshall," said Worthington. "I liked his honesty, his work-rate. He's low maintenance, a lovely lad and a very strong boy for his age. "I spoke to (Wolves boss) Mick McCarthy three weeks ago and he has similar views; he has a lot of time for him. "The lad has got something and we have to nurture it, just as we do with the other youngsters Adam Thompson, Lee Hodson, Corry Evans. "Johnny is part of this squad and he is as much entitled to play as anyone else." McCarthy, as a former manager of the Republic of Ireland, knows all about the demands of international football and he is delighted for his young charge to be involved with his national side. "Mick thought it would be good for him, coming away with us, being involved," said Worthington. "He thinks it has helped his development and thinking about the game. He's around their first-team group, a little short of the Premier League maybe but he's only 18. "He's got a long way to go but he's on the right road."
