Redknapp arrived after Spurs' disastrous start to last season and Gomes' lack of confidence was one of the problems he faced, with the 29-year-old's horrendous error at Fulham the worst of his blunders. Gomes is back at Craven Cottage on Saturday evening at the top of his game after a host of fine performances during the current campaign. "He's certainly been one of the best, he's up there with the best of them at the moment," Redknapp said. Redknapp points to the work of Tony Parks to explain Gomes' turnaround, as well as the injection of competition following the arrival of Carlo Cudicini, who is now out for the season following a motorbike accident. "When I first came here, I did think maybe we needed (another goalkeeper)," Redknapp said. "I bought Carlo in, I thought Carlo was a big influence as well, because suddenly he pushed him for his place, and got in the team as well. Redknapp added: "He (Gomes) wasn't showing me what everybody had told me about him, the reports were that he was a world-class goalkeeper, from people who I respected. "And he was just having a bad time, his confidence was shot - but since then he's shown just how good he is, he's been fantastic. "I think I just kept picking him, that was the key. And then I brought Tony Parks in to work with him which was a big change." Gomes is one of 12 fit senior players for the FA Cup quarter-final, with Jermain Defoe the latest injury concern after returning from England duty with hamstring problems. Redknapp is aware how difficult Fulham are to beat, especially with Roy Hodgson in charge. The Spurs boss is not shocked to hear that Hodgson has been linked with coaching Britain's 2012 Olympic football team. "There's every chance that he should be, sure, it's not a surprise," he said. Redknapp and Hodgson have both been mentioned as eventual England managers, but the Spurs boss, who lives in Poole, said: "No, I'm going to manage Swanage. That's where I'll finish, I've always said that. "My wife's been taking rowing lessons - she can row me over there for training. Swanage is perfect for me, just over the water there. Tuesday and Thursday nights, a bit of training with the boys. That's where I want to be."
