German federation allows Dutt to join Werder
The German Football Federation released Robin Dutt from his contract as director of sports on Monday, clearing the way for him to sign a three-year contract to coach Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
''With Robin Dutt, we got the candidate for coach whom we wanted, and we are sure we can start to rebuild with him,'' Werder director Thomas Eichin said.
Dutt left the federation three years before the end of his contract, after only one season in the job. The federation said the post requires long-term commitment but it was meeting Dutt's express request to leave early.
Werder and coach Thomas Schaaf parted company after 14 years one match before the end of the season. Bremen barely escaped relegation and will need to rebuild with limited means.
Dutt made his name at Freiburg, but was sacked by Bayer Leverkusen less than a season into the job.
His predecessor, Matthias Sammer, lasted six years at the federation before moving to Bayern Munich. The job involves supervision and development of youth selections.
