AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso says being able to play football again is like winning the Champions League, after returning following six months out with an eye injury.

Gattuso played just over an hour for Milan in the defending Serie A champion's 1-0 win at Chievo Verona on Tuesday.

Gattuso said Wednesday the 60 minutes ''seemed an eternity'' but that ''being able to train and play is like having won a Champions League on a personal level.''

Gattuso has been out since October due to myasthenia, an autoimmune neuromuscular disease that affected his left eye.

The 34-year-old Gattuso, whose contract expires at the end of the season, said in February he is willing to pay for free.
