France Leads Spain, Argentina in FIFA Men's World Ranking; USA Drops to No. 15
Where were you in Sept. 2018? Well, France was atop the FIFA Men's World Ranking, and for the first time since that time period, Kylian Mbappe and the French are first in that ranking again, as of Wednesday, Apr. 1.
France moved up two spots to get to No. 1. Spain (No. 2) and defending World Cup champions Argentina (No. 3) each fell one spot. All top 10 teams will be at the World Cup, which will be held this summer starting June 11. This edition will be the largest of the World Cup ever with 48 teams spread across three co-host nations (USA, Canada, and Mexico).
The highest team that won't be going to soccer's marquee event is No. 12 Italy, who were eliminated in the playoffs by Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Elsewhere, the United States came in at No. 16, falling one spot in the wake of its Tuesday night international friendly loss to Portugal. Mexico comes in at No. 15 while Canada came in at No. 30. All that said, no country moved out or into the top 10.
The highest riser was Vietnam, which went from No. 108 to No. 99. Malaysia had the steepest drop, going from No. 121 to No. 138.
