Nottingham Forest has given Steve McClaren his first job in English football since an ill-fated spell in charge of the national team.

Ten years after being handed his first managerial job by Middlesbrough, the 50-year-old McClaren was given a three-year contract by second-tier side Forest on Monday.

McClaren was fired by England in November 2007 after his 18-month stint ended with failure to qualify for the 2008 European Championship.

After facing widespread ridicule, McClaren went to continental Europe to find employment again.

Appointed by FC Twente in 2008, his side won the Dutch league in May 2010. He then moved to Germany with Wolfsburg, where he lasted until February.
