The telecommunications company Oi has become the first Brazilian sponsor of the 2014 World Cup.

FIFA said Monday the host nation's largest phone company would be a second-tier global sponsor from 2011-14. Soccer's global governing body has six top-tier commercial partners.

FIFA announced last week it expects a total income of $3.8 billion during the four-year financial cycle that ends after the 2014 tournament in Brazil.

The monthlong tournament is budgeted to cost FIFA $1.39 billion in expenses to stage.
