RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) A second-division match in Rio de Janeiro was suspended for nearly an hour because of fan violence that reportedly caused one spectator to lose his hand when a firecracker exploded near him.

The violence broke out outside the stadium where America played Olaria in the state championship Wednesday.

America said on its official Twitter account that ''one of the fans lost his hand'' after a firecracker exploded. It said another fan sustained chest injuries because of the explosion.

The game had to be stopped about halfway through the first half while the stadium's ambulance took the injured men to a nearby hospital. It only restarted after the ambulance returned.
