Faeroe Islands appoint Olsen to replace Kerr

The Faeroe Islands' football federation says former Denmark international Lars Olsen will replace Brian Kerr as coach of the national team.

Federation chairman Christian Andreasen says 50-year-old Olsen will sign a two-year contract Wednesday.

Kerr, who took over in 2009, stepped down last month. Andreasen told The Associated Press the contract with Kerr was not renewed ''because of small financial differences.''

The Faeroe Islands picked up four points from 10 games in qualifying for the 2012 European Championship.

Defender Olsen captained Denmark to victory at the 1992 Euros. He played 84 games for his country.
