Clint Dempsey has become the first American to play in a European
club soccer final.
The Fulham attacker entered in the 55th minute of Wednesday's
night game against Atletico Madrid, replacing Bobby Zamora with the
score 1-1.
A day earlier, the 27-year-old midfielder and forward from
Nacogdoches, Texas, was selected for the 30-man preliminary U.S.
World Cup roster. He scored against Ghana in the 2006 World Cup,
the only American to get a goal in the tournament.
