'Critical issues' unresolved in bidding process

A Cape Town city official says ''critical issues'' remain unresolved in the bidding process to host African Cup games next year, even though tournament organizers say they've already made their venue selections.

Mayoral committee member Grant Pascoe says Cape Town is being asked to spend too much for the right to be considered as a host city, with ''limited'' opportunities to make money back.

Pascoe's statement continues recent criticism of the South African Football Association and its local organizing committee, who have reportedly asked for about 20 million rand ($2.5 million) from potential host cities.

Pascoe says SAFA's clarification of the financial issues will decide whether Cape Town, a 2010 World Cup host city, proceeds with its African Cup bid.
