The 19-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, is regarded as an exciting prospect for the future. He has yet to make a major breakthrough at the Bernabeu and Real appear willing to listen to offers. Benfica had previously been linked with Alonso but Bolton now look to be leading the chase and Coyle feels a transfer could be imminent. Asked whether he would be looking to bring in a couple more players, Coyle told Sky Sports News: "We will do our utmost to do that. "We are trying to get a little bit closer to bringing in Marcos Alonso from Real Madrid. "It's not quite 100 per cent but we are well down the road with it and I would hope that by the start of the week we can conclude that." Coyle has already been busy strengthening his squad this summer and is thrilled to have recruited Martin Petrov from Manchester City on a free transfer. The Bulgarian, who featured in Bolton's pre-season draw against Rochdale, has been tipped to make a big impact this season. "Martin is a quality player. I believe that himself and Joe Cole were probably the two best Bosmans available in the summer, and we are delighted to have him," said Coyle. "There is no doubt that when the season starts he will have a lot of quality to show the Premier League."
