Caen's bright start to the new Ligue 1 campaign continued on Saturday with a 4-2 victory over Evian in a breathless encounter at Parc des Sports.

Aside from the six goals, there were also two dismissals with both sides finishing a man light.

Caen took an early lead through M'baye Niang before they were hit by the dismissal of Lenny Nangis after 25 minutes.

Cedric Barbosa got Evian back on terms just after the half-hour before doubling his tally minutes later, but the Evian bubble was burst when Aldo Angoula also saw red late in the half.

Their numerical disadvantage erased, Caen immediately looked a different proposition as Gregory Proment levelled, before second-half goals by substitutes Frederic Bulot and Kandia Traore clinched the visitors their fourth win in eight matches.

Caen wasted little time getting their noses in front, Niang breaking the deadlock with a run and shot from 20 yards after 10 minutes that left Evian goalkeeper Stephan Andersen clutching at air.

But the visitors had a problem to deal with after 25 minutes when Nangis picked up a second yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Andersen.

Eight minutes later Evian were back on terms with a great goal, Brice Dja Djedje the provider from the wing for Barbosa to net with a clinical header.

Veteran Barbosa is not famed for his goals from midfield but completed a notable double on 38 minutes, the 35-year-old ghosting in again to meet Fabrice Ehret's centre with another firm header beyond Alexis Thebaux.

But just as Caen before them, Evian's momentum was punctured by a red card in stoppage-time at the end of the half, Angoula collecting a second yellow for a bad foul on Alexandre Raineau.

The hosts were punished to the full from the free-kick as Proment unleashed an effort from well outside the area that found the back of the net.

Caen moved ahead again after 68 minutes with a fine solo effort by Bulot, the substitute receiving the ball down the left and cutting in before squeezing a shot inside Andersen's near post.

And the points were secured three minutes later when Bulot freed fellow substitute Traore and the Ivory Coast international calmly slotted home.
