A top Boca Juniors official says midfielder Gary Medel is leaving the club's preseason training to join Spanish club Sevilla.

Boca vice president Jose Beraldi said Thursday in a radio interview that the Chilean's request for a transfer had been granted.

The financial terms of the move were not disclosed. Medel, who is known in Argentina as ''Pitbull,'' said in a separate interview on Thursday that he wanted to move to secure the financial future of his family.

''I hope the president of Boca and people understand me,'' Medel said. ''Sevilla has been following me for months and they made me an important offer - for my future and for my kids. I want to go. This is my chance.''
