Bayern defender Boateng's ban reduced to 2 matches
Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has had his three-game suspension reduced to two games on appeal.
Boateng was banned by the German Football Association (DFB) for picking up a red card in his side's 1-1 draw with Schalke last Tuesday.
He was dismissed for fouling Sidney Sam in the penalty area as the last man but it came as some surprise when he was given a ban normally reserved for more serious infringements, such as violent conduct.
The fact it was not Boateng's first career red card had also influenced the DFB's decision.
Bayern nevertheless launched an appeal and the disciplinary committee of the DFB on Monday agreed to reduce the World Cup winner's ban to two games.
He has already missed one of those, against Stuttgart at the weekend, and will now return after Saturday's clash with Hamburg, when Bayern travel to Paderborn on February 21.
