Odemwingie and Scharner are battling to overcome ankle and knee problems respectively. Albion boss Hodgson said: "Peter and Paul are making progress. Things look a lot brighter than they did two weeks ago. "But it's too early to say whether they will be fit for Saturday. It is not impossible but they are longish shots, especially Scharner. If they are to play on Saturday, they will have to be back in training by Thursday." Meanwhile, Hodgson will not rush to look for a replacement for assistant boss Michael Appleton, who has become the new Portsmouth manager. He said: "We are not desperate to bring someone in. We can box it all up and get on with things for now but long term we would need another person."
