Wyoming edges past Florida Atlantic 20-19
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) -- An 88-yard pass from Colby Kirkegaard to Dominic Rufran set up Stuart Williams' 18-yard field goal with 15 seconds left to lift Wyoming to a 20-19 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday.
Leading 19-17, Florida Atlantic was deep in Wyoming territory after the Cowboys failed to convert a fourth down with just over 2 minutes to play. But Jaquez Johnson fumbled after a hit by Mark Nzeocha and teammate Jordan Stanton recovered at the Wyoming 8. On the next play, Kirkegaard found Rufran wide open near the Cowboys 30 and the receiver raced all the way to the Owls' 4 to set up the game-winning kick.
Shaun Wick had 111 yards on the ground for the Cowboys (3-1), while Jay Warren had 108 yards rushing for the Owls (1-3).
D.J. May's 5-yard scoring run to start the fourth quarter put Wyoming up 17-16 before Greg Joseph's fourth field goal gave Florida Atlantic the lead back with 8:14 left.
Johnson's 14-yard keeper, one play after a 65-yard punt return by Lucky Whitehead, gave Florida Atlantic its first lead, 13-10, with 8:56 left in the third quarter. Joseph's 43-yard field goal upped the margin to 16-10.
