The Minnesota Wild on Saturday waived left wing Chris Porter, clearing a roster spot two days before the NHL trade deadline.

The 31-year-old Porter played in a career-high 51 games this season, scoring four goals and adding three assits in his first season with the Wild. The seven-year NHL veteran previously played for the St. Louis Blues, tallying 11 goals and 16 assists in six years.

The Wild had claimed him off waivers in October.

Porter was drafted in the ninth round by Chicago in 2003 and made his NHL debut during the 2008-2009 season. He was a high school teammate of Zach Parise at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribault, Minn.

The Wild on Saturday also reassigned Jordan Schroeder to the Iowa Wild.
