WhatIfSports NFL Week 6 predictions: Giants upset Eagles

Published Oct. 13, 2015 3:00 p.m. ET

Each Tuesday, WhatIfSports.com's NFL simulation engine generates predictions and box scores for every NFL game for the coming week. Our highly sophisticated algorithms simulate every play of every game to produce each team's likelihood to win. Each matchup is simulated 501 times.

To account for injuries and roster moves announced late in the week, we will be re-simulating games on Thursdays through the season.

Note: our predictions use the latest available team and player information, while NFL SimMatchup includes all players that were or will be available at any point during the 2015 season so that theoretical and "what if" scenarios can be simulated.

Week 5 in Review

Week 5 featured a lot of games that came right down to the wire, but out NFL simulation engine performed well despite all the close games. The engine went 10-4 overall this week, correctly picking the Game to Watch (Bengals over Seahawks) and the Lock Pick (Patriots over Cowboys). Against the spread was a little trickier, as the engine was only 5-6.

Nailed It: Our NFL simulation engine predicted the Giants would beat the 49ers by an average final score of 28-22. The actual final? Giants 30, 49ers 27.

Wide Right: Our upset pick didn’t quite pan out. We predicted the Jags to beat the Bucs 50.4 percent of the time by an average score of 24-23, but the Bucs won 38-31

Week 6 Game to Watch

Giants at Eagles: The NFC East is up for grabs this year, so this rivalry game has some real meaning to it. Despite a strong performance in Week 5 and having home field advantage, the simulation engine has the Eagles struggling against the Giants, with New York winning 57.8 percent of the time by an average score of 25-23.

Week 6 Upset Pick

Bears (+3) over Lions: The Lions might be winless, but they’re still favored at home against the Bears. Our NFL simulation engine thinks that’s a huge mistake, as the Bears came out on top 67.8 percent of the time with an average score of 28-22.

Fantasy Radar

Fantasy Start – Jay Cutler, CHI: This might come as a surprise, but Cutler is projected to score more fantasy points than any other QB in Week 6 with a matchup against the Lions. Our engine has him putting up a whopping 24.7 points.

Fantasy Sit – DeMarco Murray, PHI: Our projections have Murray barely producing much at all, scoring 7.7 fantasy points, which is less than other running backs like Bishop Sankey and James Starks.

Fantasy Add – Charcandrick West, KC: With Jamaal Charles out for the season with an ACL tear, our engine thinks West will be the main beneficiary, scoring 9.0 fantasy points as a solid RB2 type.
