BEREA, Ohio -- In his pre-draft press conference, GM Ray Farmer confirmed the Browns have brought in two veteran quarterbacks for the team's mini-camp this week.

Reports surfaced Monday morning that Vince Young was being brought in for a tryout. Farmer was asked if that was true.

"That is 100 percent true," Farmer said. "We had some interest in Vince. He has been productive and has had success in the National Football League. We wanted to take the opportunity to see where he was. We had been following him in the offseason.

"With minicamp, the timing was right," he said. "But, he's not the only one. Tyler Thigpen will also be here, as well."

The Browns need able-bodied quarterbacks for this week's mini camp with Brian Hoyer still limited from a torn ACL suffered last season. Alex Tanney is currently the only healthy quarterback on the roster. Tanney has never played in an NFL game.

Young was with the Packers in the preseason last year, but hasn't played in the NFL since 2011. He was the third overall player selected by the Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Thigpen has played with the Chiefs, Bills and Dolphins.

Farmer was asked why neither player was brought in last year when the Browns were looking for quarterbacks.

"If a guy doesn't fit with the potential scheme we're operating they get passed over," Farmer said.
