LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) -- LaQuintus Dowell snapped a tie in the third quarter with a TD run, pushing UTEP over New Mexico State 48-21 Saturday night.

Dowell's 54-yard rushing TD ended a back-and-forth scoring battle, and gave the Miners a 28-21 lead. Darrin Laufasa rushed for a TD with five minutes left in the fourth for UTEPs biggest lead of the night at 35-21, and picked up one more with a 45-yard run.

Jameill Showers had one rushing and one passing touchdown for the Miners, finishing 18 of 28 for 253 yards.

New Mexico State (0-3) spread its passing game between Andrew McDonald and King Davis III. Davis' 72-yard TD pass to Brandon Betancourt tied the game at 21-21 halfway through the third, before Dowell's TD broke it a minute later. McDonald threw the other two TD passes for the Aggies in the first quarter, both to tie up the score.
