MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins announced a trade during Monday's game, as they acquired infielder Eduardo Nunez from the New York Yankees in exchange for left-hander Miguel Sulbaran.
Nunez, 26, spent parts of the last four seasons with the Yankees but was released by New York last week. In 270 career games in the big leagues, Nunez has batted .267 with 10 home runs, 76 RBI and 192 runs. He's played three different infield positions during his four years in the majors but has spent the majority of his time (152 games) at shortstop. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Rochester.
Sulbaran was originally acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers last July for catcher Drew Butera. He appeared in four games with Low-A Cedar Rapids late during the 2013 season and pitched one inning for the Kernels so far this season before the trade. The 20-year-old Venezuela native was 21-10 with a 3.15 ERA in 55 career minor-league games.
With the addition of Nunez, Minnesota now has 39 players on its 40-man roster.
