Trevor Bauer raps on the gutter, the grail and the Indians
“From the gutter to the grail” might not be the typical mantra for a baseball team, but that’s what Trevor Bauer has come up with.
Bauer’s new rap song was posted Tuesday on YouTube, and it’s an homage to his teammates. Bauer, who is pitching in the minors, wrote and performed the song for a podcast on Wahoos On First.
The song is 1 minute and 39 seconds, and starts this way:
From the gutter to the grail
We rise up to win it
Wahoos on first with their eyes on the pennant
Going all in cleveland it begins
From the gutter to the bling
Now they call us champions
Clearly the gutter was where the Indians resided last season, when a second-half collapse turned epic and led to 94 losses. The grail would be this season’s pursuit.
Among the teammates Bauer mentions: Michaels Bourn and Brantley “always cruisin’” and Ubaldo Jimenez “getting stupid throwing cheddar.”
And …
Cody Allen turn the heat up
Reynolds hitting cleanup
You know we never ease up.
You get the idea.
There’s more, including references to “Nasty Masty,” Asdrubal Cabrera, Jason Kipnis, Chris Perez and Carlos Santana.
The most effective line, not just for the phrasing but for the impact:
We get knocks.
Mark Reynolds used Bauer's song as his walkup song for his first at-bat Wednesday night.
Result: A home run to the bleachers.
