Tony Stewart vows to support Truck Series brawler with chicken binge
In his post-race interview after winning the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, Tony Stewart said he and his Stewart-Haas Racing teammates were out to dinner when they saw the John Wes Townley-Spencer Gallagher fight in Saturday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on a TV in their restaurant.
Stewart joked that we was waiting to see what kind of fines NASCAR will hand out for that fight before deciding if he will administer any payback of his own in his final season.
"I can't wait for Tuesday because I told (NASCAR vice chairman) Mike Helton I've been waiting for this day for a long time to see how much you get fined for a fight," said Stewart. "He laughed at me.
"I said, 'Well, look at it this way, I've got a lot of scores to settle with people and I've only got six months to do it,' " said Stewart. "I've just got to figure out if it's economically feasible to do it."
Stewart was kidding, of course, but he did add this zinger about Townley, who drives the Zaxby's-sponsored car and is the son of the founder of the chain of restaurants that feature chicken:
"I'm going to go to Zaxby's and eat chicken all week just in support of John Wes," said Stewart. "Hey, I'm all for it. I'm glad to see somebody had some emotion and actually did something with it. I'm going to live my life through him for this week. At least I did last night."
