Suns waive guard Archie Goodwin
PHOENIX -- The Suns on Monday surprisingly waived fourth-year guard Archie Goodwin.
The Suns will be responsible for his $2.1 million salary unless he's claimed by another team.
The news was first reported by Shams Charania of The Vertical and was later confirmed by a tweet from Goodwin.
Goodwin, a 6-foot-5 guard, was the 29th player taken in the 2013 NBA Draft as an 18-year-old. During his three years with the Suns, he wowed with his athleticism in the transition game but was unable to show any consistency with his outside shot. His development might have been stunted by a glut of wing players on the roster that kept him from seeing consistent playing time.
Goodwin played in 57 games last season and averaged 19.5 minutes and 8.9 points per game. He made 23.2 percent of his 3-point attempts.
Devin Booker, Brandon Knight and Leandro Barbosa all occupy the same position on this season's roster.
If Goodwin clears waivers, he'll be a free agent -- which could allow him to sign with a team where playing time might come with more regularity.
