Sources indicate Rams LT Jake Long is out for the season

ST. LOUIS -- The Rams' offense may have suffered another devastating blow on a frustrating Sunday in Kansas City.

NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk wrote early this morning that sources have confirmed an MRI revealed a torn ACL for Jake Long, ending the season for the veteran left tackle. ESPN's Chris Mortensen corroborated the reports on Twitter, also citing sources.

It would be a crushing blow not just for the Rams but for Long, who spent the offseason recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in a win over Tampa Bay on Dec. 22 of last year. He went down with pain in his right knee after the Chiefs got one of their six second-half sacks in Sunday's 34-7 rout.

Long joined teammates Rodger Saffold and Scott Wells as St. Louis offensive linemen who went down and did not return in the loss. Coach Jeff Fisher is expected to comment on the status of the other two in his press conference at 5 p.m. today. The former No. 1 pick also joined quarterback Sam Bradford as the second Rams player to suffer a second ACL tear in the last two seasons.

Rookie Greg Robinson figures to move out to tackle, where he played at Auburn last season and moved Sunday following the injury to Long. Veteran Davin Joseph will fill in at guard along with rarely used Mike Person, and 2013 draft pick Barrett Jones looks to be the temporary answer at center after recently returning from a back injury of his own.

The offensive line has struggled to establish any sort of running game this season, although some of that can be blamed on the inability of any of the three primary tailbacks to emerge as a true starter. Quarterback Austin Davis has been sacked 22 times, more than anyone in the NFL except Detroit's Matthew Stafford.
