HOOVER, Ala. (AP) -- Ray Parker pitched eight-plus innings to lead Texas A&M to a 5-0 victory over top-seeded Vanderbilt on Wednesday in the second round of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament.
The Aggies (32-25) produced three solo homers and Parker made sure it was plenty in the double-elimination tournament.
Making his fifth start of the season, Parker (1-1) allowed three hits and walked three while throwing 110 pitches. He left after walking the leadoff batter in the ninth.
Vandy (48-8), which had lost only three SEC games, didn't manage an extra base hit and was shut out for the first time this season. The Commodores came in leading the league in hitting.
Cole Langford, Hunter Melton and Troy Stein homered for Texas A&M while Daniel Mengden had three hits and Krey Bratsen added two. Melton also homered in the opening win over Florida.
Cody Glenn pitched seven scoreless innings as LSU beat Alabama 3-0 in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament on Wednesday.
Glenn (7-2) scattered five hits, walked none and struck out two. Nick Rumbelow and Chris Cotton each worked a scoreless inning of relief to complete the shutout. Cotton earned his 13th save of the season.
LSU (49-8) scored the only three runs in the game during the first inning. Freshman Alex Bregman, who finished 3-for-4, hit a double during the rally.
Alabama (33-25) managed just six hits — all singles. Charley Sullivan (5-6) pitched a complete game, but took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks.
LSU advances to play Arkansas while Alabama drops to the loser’s bracket and will face Mississippi. Both games will be played on Thursday.
HOOVER, Ala. (AP) -- Brian Anderson scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning to give Arkansas a 2-1 victory over Mississippi in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament on Wednesday.
Anderson started the Razorbacks’ 10th inning rally with a one-out, ground-rule double. Dominic Ficociello followed with a single that moved Anderson to third and then Tyler Spoon was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Ole Miss pitcher Matt Denny struck out Jacob Mahan for the second out but then threw a wild pitch on his first offering to Eric Fisher, which scored Anderson and ended the game.
Jalen Beeks (6-1) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win for Arkansas. Aaron Greenwood (3-5) took the loss for the Rebels (37-21), who fall into the loser’s bracket.
Arkansas (36-19) outhit Ole Miss 11-6. Matt Vinson led the Razorbacks with three hits.
Demarcus Henderson and Wes Rea both had RBI singles in the ninth inning to lift Mississippi State to a 5-3 win over South Carolina Wednesday night in the second round of the Southeastern Conference tournament.
The Bulldogs (42-16) loaded the bases with one out before Henderson and Rea drove in runs on consecutive at-bats for the second time in the game. Mississippi State had beaten Missouri 2-1 in 17 innings Tuesday night, matching the longest game in SEC tournament history.
Reliever Myles Gentry (4-0) limited the Gamecocks (39-17) to a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth. Gentry pitched 5-2/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out eight.
Rea was 3 for 4 while Henderson drove in three runs.
Mississippi State led 3-0 before South Carolina tied it up in the fourth. Max Schrock drew a bases loaded walk and Brison Celek followed with a two-run single.
