Royals reach attendance milestone with two sellout games vs. Red Sox
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Royals announced Friday afternoon that the team had sold out its game Saturday against the Red Sox. The only tickets that remained for Friday and Sunday's games were standing-room only.
Friday's game was also announced a sellout, making Saturday the Royals' 11th sellout of the season. On Wednesday, Kansas City surpassed 1 million fans in just the 31st home date of the season, the earliest in club history.
Attendance is up at Kauffman Stadium more than 50 percent from last season and Royals fans have shown support at the All-Star ballots as well, slotting eight Royals into the starting lineup at the last update.
Vargas plays catch again
Left-hander Jason Vargas played catch again Friday, but at a longer distance than he did the day before. Royals manager Ned Yost reported that Vargas felt good after yesterday's session.
Vargas is on the 15-day disabled list with a left flexor strain and is eligible to return Wednesday against the Mariners. He is one of three Royals starting pitchers on the DL, with Danny Duffy (shoulder stiffness and left biceps tendinitis) and Yordano Ventura (ulnar nerve inflammation) residing there as well.
