Robinson returns to Twins, Schafer placed on DL
MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Paul Molitor announced before Saturday's game that outfielder Shane Robinson will be activated from the family emergency list. Meanwhile, outfielder Jordan Schafer has a right knee MCL sprain that will land him on the 15-day disabled list.
Robinson was placed on the family emergency list Tuesday. Players are allowed to spend three to seven days on the list before being reactivated.
Schafer's right knee had been bothering him since the Twins' last homestand. He's made six starts this month but hasn't played since May 10.
"He's gotten to the point where he doesn't really want to try to battle through something that could last all season," Molitor said of Schafer's knee. "I think it probably affects all things that he does. It's slowed him some. I think we saw a couple bang-bang plays that normally you might expect him to beat out. Base stealing, jumps on balls in the outfield, it's one of those things where his legs need to be good for him to be the player that he can be to help us."
Robinson and Schafer were splitting time in center field through the early portion of the season. Since Robinson was placed on the family emergency list, though, Aaron Hicks was promoted from Triple-A Rochester and has held down the center field job over the last four games. Robinson will be active for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay, Molitor said, although he was not in the starting lineup.
