Rex Ryan can coach and he wants you to acknowledge it

Our friends at Larry Brown Sports sent us this gem: Rex Ryan feels that critics have been unduly harsh with him. "I’m a hell of a lot better football coach than I’m given credit for," Ryan told Newsday. “I don’t care. I don’t need the credit. "But I can tell you one thing, when it’s said and done, they’ll look back and say, 'Oh man, this dude can coach his butt off.' And you know what? It’s true. And I’ll let the people that know best talk on my behalf about the kind of coach I am." We here at Laces Out are rooting for Rex to turn it around in New York. His enthusiasm and personality is what the NFL needs, so here's to hoping the Jets break the two-year drought and get back into the postseason. But to do, he's going to have to coach his butt off. The team still has many holes and if they aren't filled, Rex and his coaching ability will take a brief trip to the unemployment line. It's doubtful he'll be out of work too long, though, since his ability to put together defenses should land him a coordinator job almost immediately. “I don’t have to brag, even though statistically, I can brag about anything I’ve ever done defensively,” Ryan said. Stay humble, Rex!
