Rays righty Chris Archer stikes out one, allows homer in All-Star debut
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Chris Archer made his All-Star debut Tuesday night, entering the game in the fifth inning with the American League leading the National League 3-1.
Archer came into the game after former teammate and current Detroit Tigers lefty David Price retired the side in the fourth.
Archer got his first batter, Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, to fly out to center but then walked St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta on four pitches.
The right-hander struck out Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson on a slider and followed that by getting Colorado Rockies second baseman D.J. LeMahieu to line out to right field.
Archer allowed a home run to Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutcheon to lead off the sixth, but responded by getting a groundout from Todd Frazier, the Cincinnati Reds third baseman who won the Home Run Derby on Monday.
Archer was replaced by Baltimore Orioles reliever Zach Britton with one out in the sixth and the AL up 3-2.
