Rays make changes to baseball operations staff
The Tampa Bay Rays announced changes to their baseball operations staff Saturday.
Effective at the end of the signing period for the first-year player draft on July 17, R.J. Harrison will take on the position of senior adviser for scouting/baseball operations. Meanwhile, Rob Metzler will become director of amateur scouting.
Harrison has served as the Rays' director of amateur scouting. Metzler, meanwhile, has served as the team's assistant director of amateur scouting.
"These changes reflect both our confidence in the direction of our amateur scouting department and our hope for its continued evolution," Matt Silverman, the Rays' president of baseball operations, said in a statement. "I am grateful for R.J.'s leadership of the department through this year's draft and for the past 10 seasons. It's only because of his guidance and mentorship that we are in position to take these next steps."
In addition, the Rays named James Click the director of baseball operations, Matt Arnold the director of player personnel and Bobby Heck the special assistant of baseball operations.
